Solo Travelers: Change Your Travel Game with a Group Trip

Posted: Dec 21, 2017 | MountainBased Team

Traveling solo can get lonely. When you’re five months into a year long solo-excursion, sitting in your hostel, slightly burnt out from the small talk and late-night drinking, it might be time to mix it up. Or you might be used to spending your vacations wandering cobblestone streets with only yourself and a map. Joining a group trip is great for many reasons. Here are five we think are important.

Meet New People

While the ever-evolving group of people staying in hostels brings opportunity for late night heart-to-heart conversations, some of those folks might not be getting up prior to 2pm. Joining a group trip allows you to meet new people whose primary goal is to see and experience a new culture. Plus you’ll get to meet people from all over the world. Which means you might even have a free place to stay on your next getaway.

Learn Something New

Most tour guides are good at what they do, and part of what they’re hired to do is educate their guests on local culture, etiquette, and history of the place. Tap into their wealth of knowledge as you’re meandering down the streets of Rome, or wandering through the geologically stunning desert of Utah. Chances are, they’ll know everything you’re curious about, and then some.

Forget About Planning

The best part about booking group travel, is it takes all the minute details out of your hands. Gone are the days of worrying about where to stay, which restaurant to eat at, when to book train tickets, etc. Group travel means you get to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Find a Travel Buddy

Remember what we said earlier about meeting like-minded people? Those like-minded people could easily turn into lifelong friends and travel companions. What better place to find a travel buddy than on an exotic trip to a faraway land? Who knows, you might even find that special someone.

Focus On The Local Experience

Your group tour guides probably run the same trip yearly, if not monthly. That means they know the best local trails, bars, and beaches. You’ll get to follow them into the depths of the forests for that unique cup of coffee from a very local roaster, or down a sandy pathway to an alcove you thought only existed on Instagram.

Traveling solo is a fun, unique, and confidence-building experience. But sometimes it’s good to try new things and branch out. Who knows who you’ll meet, or what you’ll learn along the way.
